LIVING ROOM REVAMP
When we first moved in, this room felt so cold and uninviting to me. I knew it had great potential, and the morning light is amazing. What the room lacked was warmth, and after years of living with what we had, I was finally able to transform it with some paint and investment in a few key pieces. It also took some convincing of the husband to reach the final layout that this room called for, and with the help of our shiny new Samsung The Frame TV, the room feels comfortable, warm, cozy and very inviting. Our son strings his toys throughout the room while we hang out by the fire or watch TV, we can easily move the chairs around when we have company and that leather floor pouf from Minda Living might be the best purchase ever.
My favorite part of the living room revamp was the fireplace makeover. My family came into town one week last summer and my mom came prepared! Together, we painted the icy-colored stone a bright, warm white (my niece and Wyatt helped too!) and spray painted the box with high-heat black spray paint. It’s held up nicely after its first winter and I love the nice contrast it gives with the white. I absolutely love our new mantle and its simplicity. We sourced some cedar from a local lumberyard, came up with a plan, made it happen, stained it and it came out so perfect. I’ll never tire of the white + black + wood combo! It’s a rather large fireplace, which surprisingly makes it rather tricky to decorate. I’ve already rearranged it a few times since these pictures were taken :)
We didn’t buy any new furniture aside from the leather pouf (which we all LOVE so much) but we did invest in the West Elm rug of my dreams and let me tell you, rugs make ALL the difference. Not only are they comfortable under your feet, but they anchor your space and tie everything all together. I love the colors and pattern in this rug, and love how little dog hair it seems to show. Having the right size rug for the room has also really helped transform the space. We purchased a few new throw pillows and blankets to tie it all together, and I’ve added as many plants as I can to the mix. There are still some awkward spots where I lost the battle with toys and other objects. I would love to have a new coffee table, more comfortable couch, etc., but that’s not in the cards for us right now. I’m so glad I could transform a space so drastically in such a budget-friendly way.
